How pay-per-message sites work
These sites let you browse for free. Then you buy credits, and every message you send, every letter you open, every minute of chat or video costs some of those credits. Conversations get expensive fast, and the site makes more money the longer a conversation drags on.

Sites where free members can't talk
Others, like the Cupid Media family of sites (InternationalCupid, LatinAmericanCupid and more), don't charge per message, but free members can only message paid members. If neither of you pays, you can't really talk.

Prices are lower in many countries, and in places where paying online is blocked or very hard, like Ethiopia, Cuba, Iran and Venezuela, Basic is free.
